For 2009, the popular Volkswagen Jetta sedan — the brand's best-selling model — and its new Jetta SportWagen sibling will be available in four trim levels, including the pioneering, industry-first offering of clean diesel TDI models compliant in all 50 states.... The DSG transmission gives drivers a choice of fully-automatic operation, with no further driver involvement necessary beyond selecting "D." The advanced transmission also offers automated manual shifting for drivers who prefer to be more involved in the gear-change process. The DSG with Volkswagen Tiptronic lets drivers shift gears up and down with a tap of the gearshift selector or finger-operated shift- paddles mounted to the steering wheel. Standard for 2009 on both the Jetta sedan (S, SE, and SEL models) and SportWagen (S and SE models) is the economical, yet powerful, 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that delivers 170 horsepower and 177 lbs.-ft. of torque.  Mated to a five-speed manual transmission or the available six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and sport mode, the Jetta sedan and SportWagen deliver on performance and efficiency. With the five-cylinder powerplant, 0-60 miles per hour comes in 8.5 seconds with the automatic and 8.2 seconds with the manual transmission.  The EPA-estimated fuel efficiency is 29 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city.
