RECORDING FOR DIVINE ART Divine Art has grown into a respected classical – music recording company, at a time when the record industry generally seems to be going from crisis tocrisis. Retail shops are closing and several established labels and distributors have gone out of business. The “majors” (multi-national record companies) are cutting down dramaticallyon their classical music programmes and are signing fewer and fewer artists.This means that talented musicians can find it difficult, if not impossible, tosecure a recording deal. The vast majority of musicians find that they have to fund their own recordingsand there are various ways of doing this. Some artists issue their work on theirown label, and one or two of these have become successful; only because themusicians involved (usually orchestras or chamber groups) are already world- famous. But it is almost impossible to place a single CD on the internationalmarket, because distributors will only deal with sizeable catalogues.
