Make A Paper Airplane

Category : » Hobbies/Hobbies Aeromodeling

Content Summary :

Make a Paper Airplane Goal: Students will learn about how children aided the World War II effort by creating model airplanes with which “spotters” could train. Objectives: 1) Children will be able to explain how model airplanes were used in the war effort. 2) Students will be able to state the role of children in training civilian “spotters” by creating model airplanes. 3) Students will practice motor skills and following directions by creating their own paper airplane. American children built 500,000 model airplanes during World War II. These models helped to train Navy, Army, and civilian “spotters” to recognize enemy planes and to distinguish them from American planes. Schoolboys in shop classes made many of these models from scraps of wood and metal. Imagine that you are a child serving your government by building model planes. Follow the instructions provided to create a simple paper airplane. Make sure to test your plane in an open area clear of people and obstacles.
