1 . I n t r o d u c t i o n 1.1 Purpose and Scope This document discusses issues involved in the design and implementation of a Java  application for Developer Platform 2.0 for Series 60. It is an update to the older document, Designing Java™ Applications for Series 60. The reader is expected to have read Introduction to Series 60 Applications for Java™ Developers and have good knowledge of Java technology. 1.2 Developer Platform 2.0 for Series 60 Developer Platform 2.0 for Series 60 supports the installing and running of Java applications. Supported Java technology is the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME TM ), consisting of Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) 2.0 (JSR-118) and Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 1.0 with CLDC HotSpot virtual machine implementation, which are delivered as part of Symbian OS v7.0s. In addition, the following Java APIs are supported: • Java Wireless Messaging API (JSR-120) – Allows sending and receiving of SMS messages in text and binary formats. • Java Mobile Media API (JSR-135) – Provides access and control of basic audio and multimedia features. • Java Bluetooth API (JSR-82) – Enables Java applications to use Bluetooth connectivity (http://jcp.org/jsr/detail/82.jsp).
