Drug-use among teenagers in two ex-communist countries, Romania and The Republic of Moldavia, as a unitary phenomenon as well as in comparison has been studied. The authors carriedout a psychosocial inquiry and got data from two representative teenager samples (N=713 in Romaniaand N=760 in Moldavia). Teachers, parents, and experts also provided concurrent relevantinformation, by 26 group interviews (the technique of focus group), questionnaires, and threeindividual interviews. Several dimensions of the phenomenon have been investigated: the extent (frequency of consumption, kinds of drugs used, and categories of teenaged consumers - referring to agesubintervals, gender, residential areas, occupational status etc., market places and traffickers);stimulating as well as the inhibiting factors, both inner and external; the attitude of the four categoriesof subjects to the drug-abuse in teenagers; strategies for combating this scourge, and others.
