Thanks to Cheops, the Solvay monthly reporting and statutory consolidation application, the group management has reliable information that meets the very strict requirements imposed on a stock market listed company, namely the publication of results in compliance with international standards (IFRS). Until recently Solvay used an Oracle database running on UNIX systems as a platform for this operation. In the context of a programme to reduce costs and time spent on the consolidation process, the migration to MS SQL Server 2005 appeared to offer an effective solution. This decision was taken by SIS (the IT department at Solvay) in early 2005. The decision is also in step with the SIS objective of providing clients with suitable and effective systems. Microsoft Gold Certified Partner EZ S used SSMA to transfer the data, procedures, functions and triggers from the old application to the new one in record time. In the future additional decision-support (business intelligence, or BI) modules will provide the Solvay management with even more sophisticated analyses.
