The GameOS is the operating system that ships pre-installed on PS3. It is also referred to as a hypervisor, an operating system that provides a channel of communication between the outside world (you, your game controller, the monitor) and the built-in hardware (CPU, motherboard, RAM, hard drive, and I/O ports). When you use the on-screen menus, play a game, watch a movie, or listen to music, you are doing so through the GameOS.
