Multiboot Many users run a version of Windows as a second operating system in a multi- boot configuration. The easiest way to set up a dual-boot machine has always been to install Windows first, before you install Linux. Although Linux overwrites the Windows bootloader, it detects the existing Windows system (assuming you install Grub or Lilo in the MBR) and au-tomatically integrates Windows as a boot option. This approach hasn’t changed with Vista, however, it may take some time for Linux installers to accommodate Vista. In our lab, the Suse 10.0 setup de-tected the Windows system and added it to the boot menu, but Vista still would not launch. The Grub settings needed some man- ual attention. Working as root, load /boot/grub/menu.lst in your editor and add the following entry:
