This story was at first rejected at first, but the responses I got were quite encouraging. It was probably the company I pitched it to, which was TokyoPop, that explained the response. For those who don't know, TokyoPop is a relatively new manga publisher in the US, that used to be a translation company, but has only very recently started developing their own American and international manga. They've only been around for a few years, but they've managed to become a strong seller of Japanese manga, because they focus their sales on girl's manga and in bookstores, which was a previously untapped market.
