To use Oracle you will be given an account on babbage2 server of IIT. You can also use the windows version of oracle. Oracle can be downloaded from Oracle website free of cost. Go to www.oracle.com , register yourself, go to downloads and download the file for Oracle 8i Personal Edition for (NT/2000 or 9x windows) depending upon the Operating System you have. Before installing see Oracle Installation notes provided in the end of the tutorial. If you are using the dial up connection it will take several hours to download. I would suggest that do not attempt to download Oracle if you have dialup connection at home. Come to main campus, there you can download Oracle and burn the CD (One lab has many machines with CD burners). Use that CD to install oracle at your home. You will have three options to access oracle. 1. Access Oracle using telnet, either from any of the labs or from home if you have Internet connection. 2. Access Oracle from labs through Oracle client installed in all the lab machines. 3. Install Oracle in your own machine if you do not have Internet connection at your home or you don’t want to connect to Internet very frequently.
